CARIBOU, Plumas County — A Caltrans pavement-preservation project on State Route 70 is relevant to people traveling through the Feather River Canyon near Caribou and Belden.
The state describes the Tobin Preservation Project as covering the road from the Butte–Plumas county line to roughly two miles east of Chambers Creek Bridge. The work includes an asphalt-rubber chip seal, localized concrete pavement repairs, shoulder work and replacement of pavement markings.
Caltrans anticipates approximately 25 working days of construction requiring traffic control, with work planned for 2026. The published project scope does not establish that a lane closure is active at any particular hour today. Weather, rockfall and other incidents can independently affect this winding canyon highway.
What residents and visitors should know
Drivers should consult Caltrans QuickMap, current district construction updates and posted signs before traveling. Freight deliveries and emergency access may take longer during active single-lane traffic controls, so allow additional time when restrictions are in place.
