CARIBOU, Plumas County — People in Caribou and the surrounding Feather River Canyon should register their home address and contact number with Plumas County’s Genasys emergency notification service.
The county’s emergency resources page provides sign-up access, an interactive Genasys Protect evacuation-zone lookup, Caltrans road conditions, weather warnings and links to electric-utility outage maps. Local emergencies can include wildfires, storms, road closures and power interruptions; canyon terrain can limit the number of available escape routes.
The county urges residents to identify their evacuation zone in advance. An old map or a previous wildfire warning must not be confused with a current evacuation order; incident commanders may direct traffic along routes different from what a household originally planned.
What residents and visitors should know
Residents should keep an emergency kit, identify more than one route when possible and share a communications plan with household members. During an active evacuation, follow instructions from local authorities and use 911 only to report an emergency, not for routine information.
